The ridge caps along the peaks of a tiled roof sit in a bed of mortar and are sealed with a flexible pointing compound. As that mortar ages it cracks and crumbles, letting water in through the gaps and leaving tiles loose. We re-bed the caps in fresh mortar and re-point them, locking everything back down and sealing the ridge lines against the weather.
